Coach Bill Milam has a real love for the game of basketball and always puts the welfare of his players first. His goal is to help each player take their individual skills to the next level, and to have the team be the very best it can be.
Coach Milam has been a high school and college basketball referee for 30 years, including the 2005 - 2006 season. His experiences in both officiating and coaching make him uniquely qualified to teach the players the ins and outs of the game from a perspective that is rarely taught.
Coach Milam believes in teaching the sport through fun and positive reinforcement, rather than screaming at or demeaning the kids. He makes great effort to always treat his players with the respect they deserve. Mistakes made on the court do not lead to an immediate substitution of those players. They are therefore much more willing to attempt to make plays and less afraid of being removed from the game for making a mistake. This approach aids in the overall development of the players.
He charts the performance of his players, identifying areas where they excel in games, plus areas needing additional improvement. He then works with the players in the practice sessions to reinforce their good habits and to improve those areas needing additional focus.
He stresses the importance of the individual taking full responsibility for their own performances and actions, both on and off the court. This will ultimately enable the players and the team to perform at the highest possible level.
